Abous Us
Welcome to Nile Home, where the warmth of a candle ignites hope and justice. My name is Muna Haroun, and I am a Sudanese immigrant, an educator, and an advocate for marginalized communities. I don’t consider myself extraordinary—I am just an ordinary person who is tired of watching my people and my country endure destruction and pain.
Fragrance has always been a deeply cherished part of my Sudanese culture. It evokes memories of home, gatherings, and traditions. Inspired by this love and my commitment to toxin-free, sustainable living, I turned my candle-making skills and passion for essential oils into a force for change. Every candle I create is infused with care and purpose—a small yet powerful way to shed light on a better future for Sudan and beyond.
I am based in Cleveland, Ohio, where I am part of a vibrant Sudanese Community Network dedicated to advocating for justice and equity. Nile Home is my way of blending advocacy with creativity. Through our organic, eco-friendly candles, we offer not just a product but a call to action. Each purchase directly supports initiatives that provide relief and resources to those affected by the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
The Nile has been a source of life and civilization for centuries, but it has also faced relentless attacks—on its land, people, and culture. We are all connected to the Nile’s legacy; our ancestors, whether 10 years ago, 100 years ago, or 1,000 years ago, have roots that trace back to its waters. Nile Home is a tribute to this shared heritage and a stand against the forces that seek to exploit it.
At Nile Home, we believe in the power of ordinary people uniting for extraordinary change. By choosing our candles, you join a community that values justice, sustainability, and the resilience of marginalized voices. Together, we can illuminate paths to a brighter, more equitable future.
Thank you for supporting Nile Home. Let’s light the way—one candle at a time.
"Each candle has a story behind it. For example, one of our bestsellers is called Bint El Sudan—it’s made from sandalwood, jasmine, and tonka beans, and it’s inspired by the beautiful, warm scents of Sudanese culture. I also make sure all my candles are organic and toxin-free, so they’re not only good for the soul, but good for the environment too.”
